About
Tonia Beard
I started my journey as a therapist after teaching in K-12 schools in the United States and Japan. I have also been a school counselor and mental health interventionist in K-12 grade. I discovered that many of my students didn't have the social emotional skills to be successful. Several years later, I experience the same problems with my own children. Both struggled emotionally and academically. I also felt like I had failed as a parent and felt judged by my peers and my children's teachers. You will never experience that kind of judgement in my practice. There is very little that you can say that will surprise, or shock, me. Trust me, I've seen it all! I use a person centered approach and meet my clients where they are at.

Experience
Welcome to my practice
I have been a counselor for over 25 years. I have also been a School Counselor and Mental Health Interventionist working with high school, middle School and elementary school students. My school background enables me to better help my clients, and parents, navigate school "systems" and be an advocate for them. I have extensive experience working with at risk clients struggling in areas of academic struggles, ADD/ADHD, depression, anxiety, relational conflict and suicidal ideation. I believe in creating a safe and supportive environment where clients can freely express themselves and work towards a better, healthier life.
